What it is

BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino-acid sequence based on a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It is used as a laboratory research chemical and is not a registered medicine in South Africa or in major international jurisdictions.

Mechanism being studied

Preclinical work has explored possible influences on angiogenesis-related signalling, nitric-oxide pathways and growth-factor receptor expression in injured tissue. These mechanisms are described in animal and cell models and have not been confirmed as clinically meaningful in people.

Human evidence

Published controlled human trials are very limited. Most available literature is animal or in-vitro work. Claims about tendon, ligament or gut healing in people are not supported by adequate human evidence at this time.
